We are an organization which unites and assists Catholic women to become involved in the needs of our parish. We provide a medium for Catholic women to speak and act upon matters of mutual interest; support social actions and inspire women to become leaders in many areas of life. We represent Catholic women of our parish and collaborate with other organizations for the good of our larger parish community.
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic fraternal organization. Charity is the first principle of the Knights of Columbus. Knights are men of faith and men of action. We volunteer countless hours of our time to charitable causes around the world and in the local communities. Council 1574 has been serving the area since 1911. We serve the Parishes of Immaculate Conception Braidwood, Assumption Coal City, St. Lawrence South Wilmington, Sacred Heart Kinsman, and St. Mary's Reddick as well as their surrounding communities.
We continually strive to bring the hope of Christ's love to our area through our service and support. We live out the Faith in our families and they are a crucial part of our events. LORD, grant us the strength to serve others, in Your name, Amen.
The Legion of Mary is the largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church, with well over 3 million active members in almost every country of the world. It has been active in the United States since 1931, has been approved by the last 6 Popes, and was endorsed by the Second Vatican Council. The main purpose of the Legion of Mary is to give glory to God through the sanctification of its members.
Members become instruments of the Holy Spirit through a balanced program of prayer and service. Works include door-to-door evangelization, parishioner visitation, prison ministry, visitation of the sick or aged, crowd contact, religious education, visiting the newly baptized, Pilgrim Virgin Statue rotations, and meeting the other spiritual needs of the parish community. Legionaries are under the guidance of a spiritual director named by the pastor. The Legion is, in essence, an extension of the heart and hands of the pastor.
The vision of our group is to be a source of spiritual and emotional nourishment for mothers. Through this ministry we hope to create a place where supportive friendships are formed and women are uplifted. Most importantly, we seek to bring all women to a personal knowledge and experience of God’s love as given to use thru His Son Jesus Christ. We also look to Mary as a model of what a true Mother is.
